37 hours per week*
*This is a full-time position, however we will consider applicants looking for compressed work patterns or slightly less than full-time hours.

Teignbridge are a progressive District Council in the Southwest with an area covering from the west side of Exeter, to Dartmoor in the north and the coast line to the south. We operate out of modern, decarbonised offices in Newton Abbot which has excellent road and rail links.
We are seeking two Planning Officers to join our dynamic Development Management team. You will work alongside a like-minded group of Planners and Technical/Administrative Support Staff who all work together to deliver high-quality developments, improve the quality of the built and natural environment across the district, to help make Teignbridge a healthy and desirable place to live, work and visit.
Our team have made significant progress in the last six months turning our performance around and meeting best practice in our decision making and we are looking for others who share that desire for great customer service.
Each available position will be within one of the two area-based teams carrying a case load of varying types and scale of application, dealing with all stages of the development management process. This will include giving pre-application advice, making site visits, writing reports, making recommendations on your own cases, discharging conditions, and representing the council in appeals and at planning committee. Depending on your current level of experience, and qualification, our friendly, supportive and positive team, including dedicated one to one time with an Area Team Manager, will provide you with guidance, support and development opportunities to help you succeed and progress.

You are a Teignbridge District Council fit if you:
- Have a degree/diploma in Town and Country Planning or related subject.
- Have recent and relevant skills and knowledge relating to Development Management.
- Have several years of experience within a Local Planning Authority, preferably in a rural location.
- Have, or are eligible for, membership of the RTPI.
- Have experience of dealing with a wide range of complexity of planning applications including prior approvals and major planning applications.
- Have a full driving licence and can undertake site visits around the District.
It is not expected everyone will be able to demonstrate all the above; we welcome graduates or those who have some experience in planning already (see career grade criteria within JD).
