Our client is a multi-faceted consultancy firm with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality and innovative planning solutions. With a focus on rural planning, they aim to preserve and enhance the unique character and heritage of rural areas while supporting sustainable development. As they continue to grow, they are seeking a talented Senior Town Planner to join their team in Bury St Edmunds.

As a Senior Town Planner with a specialization in rural planning, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing planning projects in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding areas. Your expertise in rural planning and extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and policies will guide clients in making informed decisions while striking a balance between development and conservation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of rural planning projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality planning solutions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to clients on rural planning matters, including land use, conservation, environmental impact, and sustainable development.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to identify planning constraints, opportunities, and potential risks in rural areas.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and other related documents, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including local authorities, community groups, and developers, to develop effective planning strategies and solutions.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys, and assessments to gather necessary data and evaluate the impact of proposed developments on rural landscapes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest legislation, policies, and best practices in rural planning, sharing knowledge and insights with the team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Town Planning or a related field.
  • 3 years experience in town planning, with a focus on rural planning, gained within either a consultancy or local authority setting.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is highly desirable but not essential.
