This is a fantastic opportunity for hybrid working in an exciting and dynamic West London planning team.  We boast 3 Opportunity Areas and 2 Regeneration Areas which are buzzing with activity driven by our ambitious industrial strategy and desire to improve opportunities for residents and the quality of our public realm. Our refurbished and improved Civic Campus, in the heart of the borough, will soon be open; improving connections to our beautiful riverside which we want to make as active and accessible for everyone’s enjoyment. We are working with Imperial College to promote our ‘Tech West’ hub and the OPDC to deliver the key HS2 / Cross Rail interchange. Deputy Team Leader (Specialist PPA) – Development Management

Salary: £53,799 to £56,868 per annum

Contract: Permanent / 36 hours per week

A specialist to work individually and as part of a team on large and complex planning applications through pre-app stage to issue of decision. Through the application of high-level Development Management and supervisory skills, make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the borough through the innovative and practical development of major proposals to ensure that growth and regeneration in the borough is delivered in line with the Hammersmith & Fulham Local Plan and associated documents.


You’ll be leading on the delivery of key strategic projects in a timely and well managed manner. With a challenging caseload of complex and major planning applications and pre-apps which includes important council direct delivery schemes and those with key stakeholders. The caseload will be largely subject to PPAs which support the delivery of wider corporate objectives for affordable housing, affordable workspace, environmental improvements and s106 contributions. Judge and assist in judging the merits of development proposals, determine planning applications and related matters within delegated powers, and evaluate and make sound recommendations on applications particularly those of a complex and controversial nature, including presentation at planning committee.

Career Grade Planners – Development Management

Salary: £29,412- £44,862 per annum

Contract: Permanent / 36 hours per week

You’ll be dealing with a wide range of applications from householders and changes of use to complex masterplans within our Opportunity Areas. We have a dense housing stock with a rich heritage; a cultural and sporting presence with three major stadiums; some of the biggest developers are very active in our regeneration areas.


As part of trusted member of an area team, you’ll work closely with residents, a range of stakeholders, and support your manager; you’ll have excellent interpersonal skills and be a responsive with contributions to workloads, deadlines and new ideas.


This role includes a cross team role element rather than always being based in just one team. As a career grade planner, we will tailor the work to your experience but and there will be opportunities to assist more experienced officers on major and strategic applications. As you develop through our career grade structure there will be opportunities at senior level to lead on more complex borough-wide sites. .


You will need good written and oral communication skills and be able work collaboratively both within the organisation and with external organisations. You should have an ability to handle conflicting pressured situations whilst putting forward cohesive logical planning arguments on behalf of the Council. You should be able to effectively manage a caseload with multiple deadlines.
