New Talent Wanted!

We are recruiting to bolster our Planning and Development resource to meet demand and improve the services we provide. Visit our website at: https://www.cherwell.gov.uk/futures-in-Cherwell.

Are you looking for a dynamic and exciting place to work?  We are busy planning office in North Oxfordshire dealing with a huge range of developments including a Garden Town, the expansion of Oxford, a new settlement on a Cold War site, Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, and numerous urban extensions.  We are also producing a new Local Plan.

Whether you are an experienced officer or at the start of your career, we may have something to offer.

We are looking to recruit to bolster our Planning and Development resource to meet demand and improve the services we provide.

We have three service areas: Planning Policy, Conservation & Design; Development Management and Building Control & Flood Risk.   The Council has parallel services focusing on the delivery of the Bicester Garden Town, a vision for Banbury, economic growth, and strategic transport.

With its growing towns, its location on the Oxford-Cambridge region, its proximity to Oxford on the M40 corridor and its location on major rail lines including East/West rail, Cherwell receives significant investment and development interest. We also have highly attractive rural areas and places to live.

As a place to work, we offer hybrid working, excellent ICT systems, the prospect of a new office environment and great teams to work with.

The Job:

Cherwell District Council’s busy Development Management team needs a bright, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to make a difference to our Planning service. This is a great opportunity for individuals to start their planning career, or for existing planners to gain experience within a framework that supports career progression while processing and determining a wide variety of planning applications.

With innovative and large-scale housing developments such as the country’s largest self-build community at Graven Hill, the exemplar zero-carbon development at Northwest Bicester, and the redevelopment of a former Cold War airbase, Cherwell is committed to doing things differently.

The Person:

If you are enthusiastic and ambitious to develop your career in Planning and passionate about delivering well-planned sustainable communities, you could be what we’re looking for.  We want customer focused people who embody our ambitions for a high quality, efficient and value for money development management service.  You will need to be a self-starter who works quickly, accurately, and flexibly.

The Benefits:

The Council is an equal opportunities employer. We offer agile working, which means we don’t have a rigid work location. Our staff work from home and in the office to suit the business need. Other benefits include:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement 26 days + Bank holidays
  • Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (Including Employer Contribution)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Annual Flu Vaccination
  • £25 Annual eye test voucher
  • Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years’ service)
  • Flexible working policy

We will review applications upon receipt.
