Inclusive Recruitment Pilot

In keeping with Camden’s commitment to Conscious Inclusion, we are taking positive action to improve diversity at our senior levels. One of the measures we have committed to is making sure we don’t have any All-White shortlists for roles at Level 5 and above.

The recruitment to this role will form part of that pilot, to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in senior roles within the council. Please see here for further information OR contact the resourcing team at

About us

In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study, and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities, and nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

The role

This role provides an opportunity for an experienced planning professional to develop their people management skills while leading on pivotal planning applications that drive positive outcomes for our borough and its communities. Supporting our Area Team Managers you will take on line management responsibility for a number of planners in the team.

You will manage your own caseload mainly comprising a small number of large scale or high profile major schemes on which you will lead on the negotiations to secure strategic benefits for Camden.

Your strategic approach will strengthen relationships across the council and externally, fostering collaboration. As the go-to expert on planning advice, processes, legislation, and Camden's policies, you'll empower confident decision-making. Your commitment ensures a responsive, high-performing Development Management Service that meets community needs.

About you

We are looking for someone who thrives in complex situations, understands how politics affect local development, and can find smart solutions to challenges. You should care about residents and know how local government works, while your grasp of the planning process's financial and societal implications sets you apart. Building good relationships within and outside the council is important for this role.

You need to be good at managing projects, talking to people, and seeing the big picture. Your experience in handling complex planning applications is crucial. Being a good leader and mentor is a must.

You'll need a degree and postgraduate qualification in Town Planning, and at least 5 years of experience in local authority Development Management.
