Development and Housing Directorate – Preston is at an unprecedented stage in its development. With over £20m of Towns Fund grant, major leisure and public realm projects underway, a new commercial quarter planned at Preston station and the ongoing implementation of the multi-award-winning City Living Strategy alongside the delivery of thousands of new homes and major infrastructure investment and delivery through the City Deal, Preston has developed a new confidence for positive change.

Preston was jointly commended as the Royal Town Planning Institute’s Planning Authority Team of the Year 2021 and we are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and well organised individual to take up a temporary Enforcement Officer role within the Development Management team.

In this Planning Officer role you will deal with a range of planning applications for development proposals across the City. As such you should have excellent communication and negotiation skills. The role will require you to have knowledge of the planning system as well as current planning legislation, policies and procedures. You will be able to act on your own initiative and have the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of employee benefits including flexi time, hybrid working, a minimum of 30 days’ annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), family friendly policies, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, Local Government Pension Scheme, AVC’s, life assurance scheme, payment of professional fees, discounted parking, cycle to work scheme and discounted bus and rail fares.

The successful applicant must be customer focussed, a team player with demonstrable experience of effective enforcement work either within the planning profession or in another profession where your skills will be transferrable.

For an informal chat about the role, please contact Phil Cousins, Development Management Team Leader, on 01772 906584
