Grade 12, £57,238 - £65,842 (inclusive of local weighting) +£3500 Market Supplement*

Full time, 37 hours per week (part-time working and job share considered). Permanent. Blended working available. Based in Hertford. Closing date 27th November 2023.

This motivated and highly professional team is looking for an individual committed to the delivery of effective planning outcomes across the Development Management and Enforcement functions. East Herts Council is ambitious. We also have new leadership in place at a political level, welcoming a Green/Liberal Democrat joint administration following the local elections in May. The purpose of the role is to lead a Development Management service that is efficient, effective, and provides high quality output. The service should be responsive to customer needs and work in a way that is proactive and seeks to improve, wherever there are opportunities to do so.

About you

This role will suit a candidate who has significant experience of the Development Management function. You will be determined to drive the service forward and be willing to explore new ways of working and be focused on high quality outcomes.

You will be a proactive member of the management team for the service, enjoy working collaboratively and leading a team.

You will be looking to enhance team development and learning, ensuring that your team works in a collective and supportive way to share new ideas and develop.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A planning qualification
  • Hold MRTPI membership
  • Have excellent working knowledge of relevant planning legislation and regulations relating to Development Management and Planning Enforcement
  • Experience in leading a team of professional staff to maximise the delivery of the service
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal with challenging situations using tact and diplomacy
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to take robust, well informed and time sensitive decisions
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders from both the public and private sector
  • The ability to motivate and support people around them
