We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustainability Officer to join our busy Spatial Planning & Transportation team. The role focuses on developing policy and commenting on planning applications on all aspects of sustainability and climate change. You will also play a key role in delivering the aspirations of Brent’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy and the Borough Plan.
You will be part of the Planning Policy team within Spatial Planning & Transportation, responsible for the delivery of allocated projects in the Local Plan programme, specifically the most recently adopted Sustainable Environment and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). You will input into our exciting work on Growth Area Masterplans and other site briefs/guidance and provide high quality professional and technical advice on sustainability matters in relation to development proposals, including the council’s own housing and regeneration programme.
Brent declared a climate and ecological emergency in July 2019. The headline aim committed the council to ‘Do all reasonable in the Council’s gift to aim for carbon neutrality for 2030’. We want to hear from people who want to play a key role in helping us to achieve this through the implementation and delivery of the Brent Local Plan. You will have a positive approach to work and motivation to develop and drive forward ambitious sustainability outcomes for Brent – delivering good growth and positive change for all Brent’s communities.
You will have a comprehensive understanding of the planning system, relevant experiences of working on sustainability matters and the ability to work collaboratively across service areas ensuring objectives of the Borough Plan, Brent Local Plan and Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy are delivered.
The ability to build relationships across service areas (internally & externally) and drive effective community engagement will be key.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly performing team.
This permanent post with flexible working arrangements is based at Brent Council’s award-winning offices which are within walking distance of Wembley Park station.
You will have a relevant qualification in Environmental Sciences/Environmental Planning/Building Engineering or similar relevant subject.
