An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Town Planner to join our Planning Team at East Cambridgeshire District Council as a Planning Officer/Senior Planning Officer. We are looking for a dynamic, driven individual with good people skills who wants to make a difference.

With a diverse range of buildings and projects in the District, including internationally renowned heritage and environmental assets, new industrial projects, a major extension to the north of Ely and retail proposals, there are wide-ranging areas of work to be enjoyed with this role. East Cambridgeshire is committed to growth, with a positive and pro-active approach to development. It is open for business with a strong customer focus.

As a Planning Officer/Senior Planning Officer you will manage and determine a caseload of planning applications including a wide range of development proposals and major development schemes (at senior level), making presentations to Planning Committee when necessary; provide detailed advice at the pre-application stage and represent the Council in public and at appeal.  In the Senior Officer position, you will also support, motivate and advise Planning Officers and the Planning Assistant.

The successful candidate must be well organised and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. You must have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to contribute to a high-quality service to our customers. We would expect the successful candidate to be educated to degree/Masters’ level or hold the equivalent of a planning qualification, with town planning experience and a proven track record of managing a significant caseload. The Council operates a career grade scheme for Planning Officers/Senior Planning Officers and the starting salary/role offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Due to the nature of the job permanent access to a car and a full driver’s licence is essential.

The post attracts a 2-year fixed term market supplement of up to £4,000 annually, subject to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The full supplement will be payable to those who can demonstrate the Senior Planning Officer level qualification and experience.

If you are looking to work for an organisation that prioritises environmental sustainability, the Council has made a clear commitment to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner and has recently been awarded the bronze accreditation of the Investors in the Environment scheme.

In return, the Council offers a range of benefits including:

  • Flexible working
  • Remote working
  • Childcare scheme
  • Essential car user allowance (up to £1,239 p.a.)
  • Training, development and payment of professional fees
  • Occupational health programme Holidays, sickness and salary pension scheme entitlements
