We have created the position of Principal Ecologist to lead on providing specialist ecological advice to all aspects of the Planning Service. You will have experience of working in planning and development and ideally have experience of environmental policy and legislation in this context. The role will give you the opportunity to work on and provide advice on a variety of protected species surveys, EIA processes and guide habitat restoration and design across the district.

You will bring your excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence negotiations and provide advice to planners, elected Members and developers. You will have the opportunity to steer the emerging Local Plan where it relates to ecology and biodiversity, and thus have a significant impact on the development of the district going forward.

This role would be ideal for someone who has undertaken an environmental or zoology degree, would enjoy a mix of office and field-based work, and have the opportunity to influence the future of the district.
