Job Details
We are seeking an experienced and motivated policy planner to lead our new Planning Policy & New Communities Team. Reporting to the Director of Planning and leading a team of thirteen, you will steer the production of the Local Plan as set out in our LDS. You will have experience of successfully leading on policy production along with demonstrable experience of managing and leading others. You will be a qualified town planner and a member of the RTPI.
You will become a member of UDC's Senior Management Team, contributing to the shaping and delivery of the organisational culture, acting as the lead officer on planning policy, and creating environmentally sustainable places. You will also oversee our conservation, urban design and ecology functions. As such, you will guide our work as a DLUHC Design Code Pathfinder Authority.
You will be working closely with key elected Members, parish councils and other stakeholders and have responsibility for the Local Plan budget. You will be fully supported by the Director and Chief Executive in terms of direct professional support and investment in your own learning and development. In turn, you will provide suitable mentoring, guidance and arrange training for your team members.
This is a key role within UDC and will be high profile. As such, you will bring excellent verbal and written communication skills, broad planning knowledge and lots of ambition to the role. This role would suit someone looking to advance to chief planner or assistant director level roles in the longer term.
