This is an exciting time to join Wakefield Council’s Planning Services Development Management team. Our emerging Local Plan (scheduled for adoption in 2023) sets ambitious housing and job growth targets and to meet this challenge and to ensure that high quality, strategic regeneration initiatives are delivered we are looking for enthusiastic, committed and experienced individuals, to join our highly successful Development Management Planning team.

Principal Planning Officer (Deputy Team Leader) (Development Management) – Grade 11: £40,578 – 43,570 (pay award pending), full time, permanent

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate significant experience of handling major, strategic planning applications. The position offers line management opportunities; therefore, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership qualities and the ability to contribute positively to the continued development of the Service.

Senior Planning Officer (Development Management) x 2 – Grade 9 - 10 (dependent on experience): £32,234 – £38,890 (pay award pending), full time, permanent

The successful candidates will have responsibility for case-managing and determining a range of complex and major planning applications, providing pre-application planning advice and assisting with staff development and Service improvements. If you have experience and knowledge relating to these matters, as well as a keen interest in high quality place making and securing sustainable development we would like to hear from you.

Planning Officer (Development Management) – Grade 6 - 8 (dependent on experience): £22,183 – £31,346 (pay award pending), full time, permanent

The successful candidate will gain experience dealing with a range of planning applications within a diverse local authority area. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to work in a challenging and busy environment, dealing with schemes through the planning process and delivering timely, high-quality outcomes.

Senior Conservation & Design Officer (Development Management) – Grade 10: £36,371 – £39,571 (pay award pending), full time, permanent

The successful candidate will be passionate, organised, and have significant experience and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Conservation and Heritage practice, Listed Building legislation, Planning policy / guidance and case law. The successful candidate will provide specialist conservation management and design support, as well as contributing to a range of heritage projects across the district.
