Location

Hertsmere is a dynamic borough located in south-west Hertfordshire just 13
miles from Central London, close to Watford and St. Albans, and within the
M25. The Council Offices are situated in Borehamwood, home to the world-
famous BBC Elstree and Elstree Studios, the new Sky Studios Elstree, within
Zone 6 and with a fast direct rail link to London St. Pancras.

About

Hertsmere Borough Council is bringing forward an innovative growth programme delivered through a new Local Plan. We are working closely with our public and private sector partners to identify and deliver new growth opportunities in our towns and villages. The post holder will be a key appointment within our Planning and Economic Development Service, given the scale of our ambition and expected growth.

As a member of the planning policy team you will play a strategic role in leading and delivering our New Local Plan and other place-focused growth and infrastructure strategies within Hertsmere and the wider area. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of working with private sector developers and public investors to deliver a mixed range of development opportunities. You will also have the ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, with experience of working within multi-disciplinary project teams.   

About the role

Joining the Service now you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, including progression of the Council’s Local Plan, assisting with the delivery of strategic site release for housing and employment land delivery and dealing with major strategic site applications.

Please note: The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to two days per week from home.

About you

You will have the ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, with strong
experience of working within multi-disciplinary project teams.  We welcome
applications from planners with relevant experience in development management, planning policy, regeneration and the private sector.

You will have a Degree in planning or closely related discipline. In addition, the successful candidates will hold a higher post-graduate qualification accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) with a good track record in planning.
