Career Graded Planning Policy Officer

Grade E - G: £25,471.00 to £37,438.50 per annum

37 hours per week, permanent

The Job:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Council’s busy Planning Policy team on a Career Grade

role with the level of appointment depending on the candidate’s experience. The post will be

based at Bodicote House in Banbury with opportunities for flexible working.

We are an ambitious, growth focused organisation with commitments to healthy place-shaping

and climate action. We are a signatory to the Oxfordshire Housing and Growth Deal which

supports £215m of investment for new homes and infrastructure across Oxfordshire. Situated

within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, Cherwell is a varied district with a large rural area, the two urban

areas of Banbury and Bicester and further development identified around the village of Kidlington

which will help to meet the needs of Oxford City.

Having adopted a Partial Review of the Plan and have commenced work on a new, district-wide

review. We are a partner in the production of the Oxfordshire Plan 2050 working closely with

neighbouring authorities. We have an experienced Planning Policy Team which is actively engaged

with our other services, communities, partners, and neighbouring authorities.

The role will include working with the team and partners to deliver the Local Plan Review,

including the draft Local Plan in the autumn of 2022, and moving quickly to the publication stage in

2023, working with our communities as they develop neighbourhood plans and supporting the

successful delivery of sustainable and high-quality places.

The Person:

You will be expected to deal with a varied Planning Policy workload. Depending on the

level of appointment, you should have, or be working towards, a post graduate qualification in

Planning and be eligible, or working towards, membership of the RTPI. Excellent written and oral

communication skills are required. More importantly though, you will be a self-starter with

initiative and vision, who can work independently and make a positive contribution to teamwork.

This is a great opportunity to progress your career and work in a friendly, experienced team, in a

great location, and to work on wide-ranging, challenging, and exciting projects.

The Benefits:

The Council is an equal opportunities employer and has flexible working practices.

A generous annual leave entitlement. Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Cycle to work scheme. Incremental pay award. Investment in learning and development. Career graded opportunities with full support given.

Closing date: Sunday 21 August 2022.

Interview date: w/c Monday 29 August 2022.
