Assistant Director: Place, Communities and Enterprise
Up to £87,144.00 per annum (inclusive of London Fringe Weighing)

Permanent, full-time 37 Hours

Ref: AD015

Just a 25-minute train journey from the centre of London, Dacorum occupies an enviable location just outside of the M25 and is home to the towns of Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring. Dacorum is an active and green place which is a centre of business, enterprise and ambition.

This is a fantastic time to join Dacorum Borough Council. We’ve assembled a new leadership team, so you’ll join us at a key time where you can really make a difference. We’re looking for talented and committed individuals, who offer proven expertise and capabilities in their own professional area, but who can also offer the wider strategic perspective and leadership skills to shape a progressive, collaborative and effective organisational culture.

Our plans for Dacorum can be summed up in one word – Ambition.

We’ve formed a new Place Directorate made up of our Place team, Planning, Economic Development, Housing Development, Commercial Property and Community Partnerships to deliver real change on the ground.

Our work has started with a comprehensive programme to deliver a step-change in the quantum and quality of new development in Hemel Hempstead. We have exciting and challenging plans for major new sustainable and green growth through the Hemel Garden Communities programme and transformative regeneration plans for Hemel Town Centre and canalside development at Apsley.  We also have transformative plans for our major business park at Maylands, home to HertsIQ, Hertfordshire’s Enterprise Zone.

We’ve just launched our Hemel Place Story, led by our multi-partner Hemel Place Board and showcased in our new website www.thinkhemel.com .

Reporting to the Strategic Director – Place, you will play a key role in leading our exciting agenda to transform and develop our places and communities within Dacorum. Your key areas of direct responsibility will be:

  • Managing the newly formed Hemel Place Programme, and working with other communities to develop new strategies to transform our towns and neighbourhoods
  • Leading our economic recovery, economic development and inward investment programmes, including developing the new Dacorum Investment Framework
  • Delivering and developing our partnerships with business and community organisations, and co-ordinating action between our vibrant and enthusiastic voluntary and community sector

Closing date: Midnight, 14th August 2022.
