Planning Enforcement Officer (Development Management & Enforcement)

SO1-PO1: £32,868-£38,148 pa. This post’s salary attracts a strong market supplement and professional fees.

Permanent and Full Time

Lambeth is a vibrant central London borough offering a wide and varied range of work. Its favourable location attracts iconic projects by international developers and world class architects. Lambeth has a fantastic variety of areas stretching from prominent riverside locations in the north such as Waterloo/South Bank and Vauxhall, lively diverse town centres at the Borough heart such as Brixton and Clapham, through to the more suburban centres of Streatham and West Norwood in the south - creating an exciting and challenging workload when combined with the hugely diverse population.

The successful candidate will take a key role within our well-established and supportive planning enforcement team - dedicated to safeguarding the amenity of people who live and work in the Borough. As part of a busy team, you will be responsible for visiting and researching sites and premises and investigating alleged breaches of planning control - by informally and formally negotiating resolutions. We’re looking for someone who is motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative - who will compliment our committed, friendly and professional team in contributing to the creation and maintenance of the high-quality built environment within Lambeth.

The post will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the overarching planning process, working closely with our development management, conservation and policy colleagues. Negotiation skills are essential as is the ability to work within a customer focused environment where tact, patience and diplomacy are essential. Experience of working within planning enforcement would of course be beneficial - but is not essential.

Lambeth is forward thinking in terms of equality, inclusivity, and diversity. With a standard 35-hour week, we pride ourselves on flexible working arrangements including flexitime, homeworking, opportunities to work part-time and compressed hours. The post’s salary attracts a strong market supplement. Lambeth also pays for RTPI subscriptions.  Office working is at our newly completed state-of-the-art Civic Centre in the heart of Brixton, less than 5 minutes’ walk from the over/underground.

For informal discussion in connection with the post please contact:
