One of the key tasks for the Net Zero Officer will be to lead on the preparation of the Net Zero Carbon Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), in collaboration with internal stakeholders and the borough’s active community organisations, residents and businesses. The SPD will be a key practical tool which will set out best practice guidance on a range of topics including energy efficiency and carbon reduction measures within the existing residential and commercial building stock in the borough, as well as achieving the highest sustainability standards in new development. The SPD will include best practice exemplars of measures suitable in Islington’s conservation areas and on listed buildings. Examples of “model houses” will be based on typical Islington typologies including Georgian and Victorian Street properties.
The SPD will also assist with embedding circular economy principles to design and construction of all development schemes and provide framework to encourage developers and architects to work towards achieving best practice and drive innovation in the application of circular economy approaches.
A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate robust technical knowledge, extensive experience and strong record in town planning, environmental sustainability or related disciplines.
