Swale Borough Council is a progressive and ambitious Local Authority, located less than an hour from Central London in an attractive and diverse part of Kent involving urban, rural and coastal areas. The Borough is facing an exciting period of change, with plans for major growth, which brings opportunities for recently qualified and more experienced planners wanting to develop a wide range of experiences and skills.

It’s an especially busy time for the planning policy section and so we’re looking to recruit three roles to join our hard working and enthusiastic team to help progress our local plan review. With coastline, countryside and towns, we can offer diverse and interesting experience working with supportive and committed colleagues. Swale is a great place to start or further a career in planning policy.

You will need to be able to undertake research and analysis and prepare detailed reports to support planning policy work. You will have a strong commitment to supporting colleagues with major projects and providing great customer service.

The successful candidate will play an important role in producing the Regulation 19 Local Plan document and in the preparations needed for submission to the Secretary of State for Examination.

We are interested in hearing from positive, energetic and conscientious candidates with a passion for planning policy and are looking to start their planning career, perhaps with a view to undertaking post graduate studies. Applicants should be well organised and able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.

This is a full time position, on a fixed term contract for 12 months, initially

The Council considers that all roles should be able to communicate clearly and concisely.

Swale Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

For further information or to discuss this opportunity in more detail, please contact Jill Peet, Planning Policy Manager, on 01795 417014 or email jillpeet@swale.gov.uk
