Planning Enforcement Officer

Permanent, Full Time

£29,174 - £31,895 per annum (Pay Award Pending)

Melton is an exciting and attractive Borough where the Council is successfully balancing its pro-development policies in its Local Plan with the need to maintain its attractive rural, built and historic environment. We are proud of our brand recognition as the Rural Capital of Food.

We are on an exciting improvement journey within the service and are making great strides in how we respond to and communicate with our customers, partners and stakeholders. This role is key to allowing us to continue that improvement through the delivery of a professional, efficient and effective Planning Enforcement service.

We are now looking to appoint someone to join our busy, professional and dedicated Development Management team as a Planning Enforcement Officer . You will undertake and assist with the investigation of alleged breaches of planning control, negotiate improvements where formal enforcement action may not be expedient, and pursue formal action where necessary including the serving of enforcement notices, dealing with some appeals and, in the most extreme cases, working with our Legal team to secure prosecution through the Courts.

You will carry out the full duties of the post in accordance with the legislative requirements and the Council’s statutory duties, policies and priorities. You will also play a key part in helping us shape the Planning Enforcement Service that will better meet the needs of the Borough’s residents and businesses.

This is a new post and we are looking for someone who’s a self-starter, motivated by the positive outcomes they can help us achieve in a role such as this and who’s also a keen team player.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised person with excellent written, numeracy and verbal communication skills. You will be educated to degree level or similar or willing to commence study to achieve an RTPI recognised qualification.

Relevant experience in Planning Enforcement at Local Authority level is essential in this role.

The Council is expanding its enforcement capacity to support the delivery of  the Development Management service. We encourage professional development and the progression of the successful candidates within the team.

If you are committed to helping us shape and protect our environment in  an ambitious rural Local Planning Authority we would be pleased to hear from you.

This job attracts an essential car allowance.

We guarantee an interview to anyone who is a reservist, veteran or has a disability and meets the criteria for the role.
