Permanent Development Manager opportunity with Chichester District Council | Excellent salary and benefits

Hays are delighted to have been appointed exclusively to assist Chichester District Council in the recruitment of a permanent Development Manager (Applications).

Due to an internal promotion, Chichester District Council are seeking a committed, passionate and talented planner to manage a large and hard-working team of planners dealing with a wide range of residential and commercial development proposals in Chichester District.

The District not only has a thriving economy and pressures for growth but also covers part of the South Downs National Park, the natural beauty of the Chichester Harbour AONB and features a rich and varied heritage, including the historic Roman City of Chichester. The combination of its special features and local issues makes for an exciting, varied and rewarding role for an experienced planner who may be an existing manager or someone with experience in supervising and mentoring planners looking for career progression and their first step into a management role.

Chichester District stretches from the south coast to the Surrey border and it lies centrally between the cities of Southampton and Brighton. It is home to a number of historic towns and villages, surrounded by beautiful countryside, providing a highly attractive place to live and work.

The Council promotes a work/life balance including flexible working patterns, the option of a 9-day fortnight, home-working, the ability to buy additional annual leave and payment of RTPI subscriptions.

The Council is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to manage a team tasked with achieving high-quality development and excellent customer service. With excellent communication and presentation skills, you should have a minimum of five years post qualification experience, the experience of attending Planning Committees and Appeals, and ideally some experience of supervising a team and dealing with larger scale and complex applications. Experience in dealing with habitat regulations issues including nitrate neutrality or water neutrality would be desirable, but it is not essential. You must be positive and well organised with the ability and enthusiasm to support a large team of professional officers dealing with a wide range of complex planning issues.
