Job Details

Following an internal restructure Castle Point Borough Council is seeking to recruit Development Management and Enforcement Officers to deal with a full caseload of diverse planning applications and enforcement work.

Ideally applicants should be able to hit the ground running and capable of working with minimum supervision, efficiently managing their case load and making a real contribution towards quality decision making. Whilst the successful candidate is likely to have some planning experience, the council would consider taking on an individual with no previous experience but the right personal skills to become a valued and effective member of the team.

Consequently, the council will consider applications from candidates with a non-town planning, but related, undergraduate degree (e.g. environmental management, geography or surveying), who may be looking at a career in planning with the opportunity to obtain a planning qualification.

Castle Point is part of the ASELA region in South Essex sitting halfway between Southend on Sea and Basildon. Our borough of 90,000 people covers Hadleigh, Thundersley, Benfleet and Canvey Island, each of which provides diverse challenges and opportunities. We are looking forwards to delivering on levelling up and creating places of the highest quality.

The Council currently receives approximately 1,200 applications per annum, covering the full range of development types and has an increasing caseload of appeals and enforcement cases. In addition a number of applications are anticipated on major sites over the next few months and there will be opportunities to assist in dealing with these applications

We are entering a particularly busy and exciting period and need committed and enthusiastic individuals, who enjoy a challenge, to assist it in maintaining its reputation for high quality service and decision making. Working in the Castle Point Planning Department will be rewarding.

If you are interested in having an informal chat please contact Stephen Garner on 01268 882351

Further details, including job description, person specification and application form can be found online via the Council’s website. Alternatively, please contact Human Resources on 01268 882293/4 or email humanresources@castlepoint.gov.uk for an application pack. CVs alone will not be accepted.

Closing date for applications is 4.00 pm on Thursday 14th July 2022.

The Council offers hybrid working, but our preference is that the person is present in the office for majority of the time, to begin with at least, so that you can work face-to-face with the team. Use of personal vehicle for site visits will be essential.

The Council is committed to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and we expect all our employees to share this commitment.
