Senior Planner Policy

Post grade PO3 (salary ranging from £40,155 – £43,356 inc LW plus currently attracting market supplement of 7% per month)

Full Time and Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to join Lambeth’s Policy and Place-shaping team and support the Council’s ambitious Planning service as it embraces the digital agenda and responds to national changes to the planning system.

Lambeth is a vibrant inner London borough that attracts significant investment and offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities.  Stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, through Brixton and Clapham in the centre, to Streatham and Norwood in the south, Lambeth has a distinctive mix of places each with its own character and community.  Lambeth’s priorities are inclusive growth, climate change mitigation and adaptation, reducing inequality and shaping sustainable, high-quality places and neighbourhoods.

We are looking for a highly organised, self-motivated individual who has experience in urban development and place-shaping. Candidates should have an RTPI-recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent. Eligibility for membership of the RTPI is desirable but not essential.  All candidates should have significant experience of town planning work, including experience relevant to planning policy and experience in providing advice to members, senior officers developers and/or the public on planning issues.

The successful candidate will report to a Principal Policy Planner and be a key part of the Council’s Planning Policy team within the wider PPS service. Their work will include helping to progress the draft Site Allocations Development Plan Document through the process pre-submission publication, submission and examination. Other work will include providing policy advice on planning applications and pre-application submissions, responses to national and regional policy consultations, preparation of guidance to support Local Plan policy, assisting with neighbourhood planning, and research and preparation of evidence to inform future policy reviews.

Lambeth Council is committed to the learning and development of its employees and provides regular training opportunities to all of its employees in accordance with an agreed personal learning and development plan.  Where applicable, the Council will also support the successful candidate gain the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) through the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and encourage them to develop in areas of planning that they have a particular interest in. Successful candidates will be able to work flexibly in hybrid arrangements, including an element of working from home.  All employees will be expected to work in the Lambeth Civic Centre (which is located in Brixton) on a regular basis.

Lambeth is committed to Safer Recruitment and aims for quality services and equal opportunities for all.

This post’s salary currently attracts a market supplement of 7% per month.
