About us

Trafford Council and its partners in the public, private and third sectors are embarking on a Vision which sees us working together to close inequality gaps and maximise Trafford’s huge potential. Our vision is working together to build the best future for all our communities and everyone in Trafford

Trafford really is a great place to work. With a positive permission culture, we embrace innovation and encourage performance. We’re keen to recruit someone with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do

Trafford Council recognises the value of a proactive and professional Planning Compliance and Enforcement function. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced planning professional to join the team and apply their expertise to investigating alleged breaches of planning control, implementing proactive enforcement interventions, mentoring and developing junior members of staff and developing their project management and managerial skills.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours: you will be committed to continually improving the way we do things to ensure effective outcomes; valuing and respecting others’ contribution. You will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference.

You will hold an RTPI accredited planning qualification, or other relevant qualification, and will have substantial experience of handling investigations into breaches of planning control; or substantial experience of development management and handling planning applications with an interest in monitoring and compliance.

You will be welcomed into a friendly environment where your personal and professional development will be encouraged. You will have the opportunity to work and grow in a people-centred and values based organisation that promotes a positive permission culture. Your opinions matter so you will have the opportunity to shape how we do things here at Trafford.

About the Role

Working within the Planning Compliance and Trees Team you will play a critical role in delivering the Councils statutory and discretionary tree protection and planning enforcement functions. Your main priority will be developing and applying your own knowledge and experience to improve efficiency and contribute towards continuous improvement in service delivery.

You will contribute to the wider work of the Councils compliance and enforcement functions, combining initiatives with other teams and helping meet broader corporate objectives.

You will support the Planning Compliance and Trees Team Manager by taking a lead role in complex enforcement investigations, devising and delivering proactive interventions and monitoring and you will assist in facilitating the continual professional development of other members of team. You will apply your knowledge and experience in supporting the delivery of Service Plan objectives and other service improvements.
