Wokingham is a great place to live and an even better place to do business. We are a forward looking unitary authority delivering an ambitious estate management, property development and investment programme. The Commercial Property Department aims to deliver best value on the Council’s own property assets whilst delivering affordable housing and other key services for our residents.
The Development arm of the Commercial Property team has responsibility for the planning, design and delivery of proposals on the Council’s own land assets, including private and affordable housing, commercial opportunities, service provision and environmental improvements; while at the same time seeking to deliver net carbon development. It also delivers on opportunities for affordable and specialist housing for the Council’s own housing company.
This is an exciting role for an experienced Local Authority Senior manager or similarly experienced private sector manager seeking a challenging role to join the Council’s commercial property team.
The successful candidate will have a strong project management background, either in the private or public sector, with membership of the RTPI and/or RICS being an advantage. As the Head of Development, you will be responsible for managing the progression of housing and commercial property development opportunities from masterplanning and viability to implementation and delivery, utilising expert project management skills to work with multi-discipline teams and across Council departments and engaging with internal and external stakeholders. You will have responsibility for
- Over-seeing scheme development and masterplanning, through the management of the Council’s Development Team (4 x FTE)
- Representing the Council as client for the delivery of development proposals, ensuring projects are delivered to budget, timescales and priorities
- Overseeing positive communications on behalf of the Council’s activities
- Ensuring projects deliver the Council’s corporate objectives and priorities
- Effective communication and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders
A key part of the role will be developing and maintaining strong working relationships and networks with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the coordinated delivery of the Council’s housing and commercial property objectives. You will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic and willing to go the extra mile.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced senior manager to deliver in a development client-side role within a local authority environment.
