About the role

Here at Crawley we are a small, customer focussed Development Management team which handles a varied range of application casework. Work is underway to regenerate the town centre and redevelop main employment areas as well as progressing a Local Plan review to address the challenges facing the Borough in delivering dwellings and other services to meet local needs to 2037. The Borough is the economic hub of the Gatwick Diamond with a large employment area and Gatwick Airport within its administrative boundary.

We are looking for a flexible, professional and customer focussed team member to work in an environment where the aim is to provide excellent customer service to all Development Management customers at every stage of the planning process.

You will deal with every aspect of the planning process from pre-application discussions, processing planning applications and all aspects of post decision work including enforcement work when required.

You will be expected to provide support to others within the team which could relate to a major project work or other planning related enquiries. Dependant on experience, the post provides opportunities to work with others on larger scale residential and commercial projects.

A thorough understanding of town planning legislation together with a successful, demonstrable track record of working in a local planning authority, or similar environment, with minimal supervision is essential. The innovative way of working adopted by the team will allow you greater control over the organisation of your caseload and effective case management experience and high standard of work is also essential.

Additional information

You will require excellent communication skills and a full current UK driving licence.

Employee benefits

We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.

Our way of working

Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.

Safer recruitment

Crawley Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
