Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week)

St Albans City and District Council’s Spatial Planning & Design Team is growing significantly, supported by new additional funding from the Council. The team is expanding from 5 to 8 Policy specialists to help us drive forward the Local Plan and cement cross-boundary relations with adjoining Councils. With advice, support and financial investment from the Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities and Homes England in our cross-boundary working on the South West Herts Joint Strategic Plan and potential major growth at Hemel Garden Communities, now is an excellent time for positive, enthusiastic and forward thinking candidates to join the team.

You will assist in the delivery of a Development Plan making service to offer a seamless spatial planning service.  This incorporates expertise from a range of professional disciplines and complies with statutory and corporate requirements and policy. The delivery of the Development Plan includes project identification and implementation.

Educated to degree or equivalent level, you must have membership of appropriate professional body, e.g. RTPI or equivalent experience and evidence of continuous professional development.

Working knowledge of preparing spatial planning documents and taking these through the plan adoption process is essential. Knowledge and experience of partnership working, stakeholder management, including public consultation and engagement techniques, are also highly desirable. An urban design or regeneration qualification; development viability, financial appraisal and project management skills are also highly desirable for this role.
