Tandridge District Council
Head of Development Management
Salary £63,458 - £71,445 with additional bonus to be discussed at interview
Location: Tandridge
Located in an attractive and rural environment on the eastern edge of Surrey, with almost 94% of the district covered by Green Belt, the Tandridge district has much to offer, with beautiful green spaces and a large number of conservation areas.
The planning department is key to delivering our strategic plan and the priorities for our residents and communities. We aspire to have a fully functioning and well-resourced planning service that protects the interests of the district, while creating the homes and infrastructure we desperately need. Planning is central to supporting the economy and we will look to the service to develop plans to promote and expand the economy, in line with our regeneration ambitions and masterplans. In becoming a greener, more sustainable district, we will look to this service to develop policies which promote green and sustainable development, working closely with local parishes and key stakeholders.
As our new Head of Development Management, your main focus will be ensuring we assess and decide all types of planning application efficiently and effectively and in line with our policies and agreements. You will be lead and manage our team that deals with the processing of planning applications, pre-application enquiries and planning appeals. You will be an expert in your field and comfortable giving professional advice and technical guidance on planning matters of all complexities.
As part of this senior role in our organisation, you will attend committee meetings and present planning applications to councillors. You will work across our organisation, for example with colleagues in legal services and enforcement, to provide a joined-up approach to the delivery of our services.
Customer service is important to us as we develop and move forward and you will be responsible for delivering a high performing service which has our residents and communities at its heart.
We will be looking to you to motivate and inspire every individual in your team to perform at the highest level and provide the best planning service they can. You will support their development and progression, as you improve and drive performance across these services.
About you
A planner by profession, you will be ambitious and motivated to become our new head of service, transforming and modernising our planning services for the benefit of our residents. You will have an in-depth understanding of UK planning policy and development management systems and statutory frameworks for decision making.
While it is likely you will currently be working for a local council, we are open to considering applicants from outside the sector, who can demonstrate the transferable skills they have to be successful at Tandridge, as well as knowledge of the current trends impacting the sector.
You will be able to draw upon your experience of forming service strategies and action plans and be someone that enjoys turning strategy into action and action into outcomes. You will be a strong, open and transparent communicator, with excellent verbally and written skills. You will be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside our organisation.
