Warwick District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced planning policy officer to lead the Council’s development of planning policy and delivering on the commitments contained within the Local Development Scheme.

This role sits within the Planning Policy and Site Delivery team of the Council, presently comprising 10 members of staff when fully staffed, who are responsible for matters relating to planning policy, site delivery and management of the Community Infrastructure Levy.

The postholder will manage a small team of staff (between 3-5 members of staff) within the Policy & Site Delivery team and lead the team in the preparation of a range of planning policy documents, including Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents. You will need to manage the work and priorities of the team that will also include supporting external organisations in the preparation of Neighbourhood Plans, responding to general enquiries and planning application consultations.

The postholder will also be expected to represent the Council in formal proceedings including Public Inquiries, Hearings or Examinations, possibly as the Council’s sole representative.

Whilst a separate team has been set up to solely work on the preparation of the South Warwickshire Local Plan with neighbouring Stratford District Council, the postholder will be required to engage in the preparation of the Plan and looking into the future any subsequent Local Plan review.

You will need to be self-motivated and enthusiastic, with significant experience in developing planning policy documents. Leadership and management is an important aspect of this post and therefore you will need to possess demonstrable leadership/management skills or have experience of managing people.

Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute is highly desirable.

The Council has embraced hybrid working and therefore a degree of homeworking will be supported and encouraged.

If you wish to discuss the position in further detail before submitting your application, please contact Andrew Cornfoot (Business Manager – Policy and Site Delivery) on 01926 456203.
