Job Details
Winchester City Council attaches great importance to the protection and enhancement of the natural and built environments through the planning process. We are looking for an enthusiastic new team member of the Enforcement Team, responsible for investigating and resolving a wide variety of alleged breaches of planning control.
You will undertake site visits to identify if any breaches are taking place. If any breaches are found, you will seek to resolve them by inviting the submission of planning applications where appropriate or through negotiation. You will also ensure compliance with formal planning notices, which could involve prosecution in the Magistrates Court or arranging direct action. You’ll work closely with the public, Parish Councils and other internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are a must. Experience of the planning process and ability to read and scale from architectural plans would be an advantage, however we are looking for a candidate who has the right characteristics to fulfil this role to begin or continue their career with on the job training. You’ll be organised, methodical and able to prioritise effectively, as well as possessing good IT and letter writing skills. You must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.
Our offices are based in the heart of Winchester’s Historic Cathedral Town and the successful candidates will benefit from free parking, essential car user allowance, flexible home working and paid Membership fees to the RTPI, along with a range of other benefits including UK Healthcare Health Plan, generous contributory Local Government pension, discounted bus travel and public transport loans, volunteering opportunities, flexible working arrangements, a cycle scheme, and career opportunities working across the department.
For an informal discussion contact Lorna Hutchings (Planning Delivery and Implementation Manager) 01962 848290.
