About the role and our team

Would you like to work in the heart of the Government and help shape Government policy? Join us as a Senior Planning Policy Officer!

Within this role, you’ll play a key role in delivering the planning policy function of the Department, through the preparation of the Island Development Plan and other planning policy documents.

Day to day, you will:

  • Work on projects focused on delivering a planning system which is fit for purpose and which supports sustainable growth
  • Help complete the Area Plan for the North and West which will be progressed alongside other plan work to deliver a simplified framework of plan coverage, namely a reviewed Isle of Man Strategic Plan and just one All-Island Area Plan
  • Help keep up to date project planning aspects for all plans/policy development work which will include working with consultants and preparing supporting evidence documents. Taking documents through the necessary statutory and legislative processes will involve helping to draft documents for Departmental approval ahead of public consultation/public inquiry 
  • Work with legislative drafters to bring forward new primary and secondary legislation

You will help undertake thorough research and the drafting of comprehensive reports. You’ll also be expected to keep abreast of changes in the planning systems in other jurisdictions.

You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team who regularly presents to and works with the Minister for Cabinet Office and Delegated Member who has responsibility for Planning Policy.

What can this role offer me?

There is a strong mapping element to the work we do, so you’ll have the chance to work closely with the Cartography Team.

You’ll get the chance to represent Cabinet Office at meetings relating to Planning Policy which may include advising other officers, political members, the public, local commissioners, landowners and developers.

You’ll also have the opportunity to be part of a team which are involved in exciting work associated with the Climate Change legislation.
