DM Team Leader

A Hertfordshire based Local Planning Authority have a requirement for a Team Leader within the Development Management Service.

In this role, you will work alongside the Head of Development Management, taking on four to five Development Management Planners under your direct supervision and management.
These will be experienced, efficient and enthusiastic members of the Area Teams responsible for processing a broad cross section of schemes consisting of minor, complex and major applications for a variety of uses across urban, conservation and greenbelt areas.

Your focus will be from purely a managerial perspective, where you will be solely responsible for allocating cases, signing off applications, monitoring performance and assisting with service improvements as and when required.

In addition, you will work closely with your team members providing comprehensive technical planning advice unblocking complex issues causing bottlenecks in the planning process.

You’ll also be involved with building robust relationships with members, undertaking briefings, presenting at committee, dealing with and resolving complaints etc.


Key responsibilities include;

• Manage and mentor four to five planning officers
• Allocate caseloads amongst the team
• Sign off delegated reports
• Monitor Performance
• Unblock Complex planning issues
• Negotiate PPA’s
• Represent council at committee and public inquiry when required
• Assist with the development and implementation of service improvements
• Conduct member briefings, engage with regeneration teams and consult with local community groups

Successful candidates will have acquired practical experience as an Team Leader or Principal Planning Officer in Development Management at a UK local authority.

Applicants must have a degree in Town & Country Planning and excellent written and communication skills as well an aptitude for leading teams and dealing with complex planning issues and applications.
