East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We currently have two exciting opportunities to join the East Suffolk Council's growing Planning team as a Senior Planner.

You will work proactively and professionally with all customers to provide a high quality development management experience within East Suffolk, and to manage, negotiate and assess planning applications and pre-application submissions in accordance with planning law, national and local policy and guidance.

You will uphold the decisions of the Council on planning applications via the appeal process, carry out some planning enforcement duties and take account of relevant legislation, policies and procedures of the Council, and also assisting the Planning team to meet agreed targets and standards, including the mentoring of junior officers.

With full chartered RTPI membership (or immediately working towards submission of your APC), you should have a recognised qualification (to Masters degree level or equivalent) in town planning or a closely related discipline, as well as considerable experience of working in planning in either the public or private sector. You will have extensive, up to date knowledge of current planning working practices, development design, planning law and regulations, and some experience of leading on major planning applications.

Confidence in negotiation, the ability to foster robust working relationships, and strong analytical skills and are all essential for this position.

If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all of the essential requirements, please apply. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
