Lancaster District is an exciting place to work as it comprises coastal, rural and urban areas, each with their own development and regeneration opportunities, including Eden North, the Canal Quarter, and expansions of Heysham Port and Lancaster University.
In this context, Lancaster City Council is pleased to offer a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to progress their planning career in the Council’s planning applications team. It is one of the highest performing planning application teams in the country, dealing with a range of planning related applications across the District, meaning that the workload remains varied and engaging.
You will gain valuable experience of determining strategic major planning applications of regional and national importance throughout the Lancaster District.
You must have relevant Development Management experience, have working knowledge of relevant planning legislation, procedures and policies, be a strong communicator, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. You will also need a degree or equivalent.
Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to undertake site visits across the district in a lone working capacity, including some remote and challenging locations
The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. This post is based at Morecambe Town Hall.
