Old Oak and Park Royal is one of London’s largest Opportunity Areas and one of only two of the Mayor of London’s Development Corporations, the other being LLDC formed to deliver the Olympic Park.
The OPDC area spans three London boroughs, the Park Royal business park and has the new High Speed 2 and Elizabeth Line station at Old Oak Common at its heart, the only place where the two major new rail lines meet. OPDC is leading the planning and regeneration of this emerging new district with the potential to deliver many thousands of new homes and jobs over the coming years.
We have a rare opportunity for a talented individual to join our Development Management team as Principal Planner on a permanent contract, helping to shape major development.
You will help deliver the Mayor’s vision for jobs and growth as you play your part in our plans for the creation of a new vibrant part of London and delivery of high quality, high density development that future generations of Londoners will be proud of.
As Principal Planner, you will take a leading role in delivering an efficient, effective and proactive pre-application service, manage a caseload of strategic and major planning applications, including the negotiation of associated legal agreements and conditions, and prepare reports for decision both under delegated authority and by the Planning Committee. You will investigate breaches of planning control and enforce as necessary, ensure that OPDC’s statutory planning obligations are met and exceeded where possible, prepare and present evidence supporting the Corporation’s position at public inquiries and hearings and deputise for the Head of Development Management as required.
The successful candidates will possess a relevant degree and be eligible for RTPI membership. You will be able to demonstrate successful experience in a similar role and will have a good understanding of the working environment of a local planning authority. Experience of dealing with large-scale major applications will be an advantage. You will also have an excellent understanding of the local, regional and national planning policy context and legislative framework. You believe strongly in working flexibly as part of a team to get the job done and are confident in your technical expertise and experience to proactively manage your own workload and deliver successful outcomes.
