For this role that means an intriguing and complex professional challenge – fulfilling our commitment to support managed growth and tackling the climate crisis, while retaining what makes Uttlesford such a special place.  

This is an opportunity with a very distinct professional focus. You’ll take the lead on the development, inspection and adoption of our Local Plan – establishing a coherent, evidence-based, long-term vision for the development of the district and working closely with elected members and other stakeholders to secure its approval. And you’ll pay close attention to our Development Management service – identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting colleagues in bringing these to fruition. 

We’re looking for someone who has experience of seeing a Local Plan through to adoption, and who understands the importance of clear and direct professional advice throughout. You should offer the right blend of strategic vision – to articulate and promote long term goals for the district; and accomplished management skills – to ensure that the operational aspects of Development Management are fulfilled to the highest standards. A full appreciation of the complexities of managing growth in a rural setting will be vital to both these aspects.
