Job Details

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a South Wales Council on the hire of a Development Manager to lead the Development Management and Enforcement teams, reporting directly to the Head of Service.
This beautiful part of South Wales is located between major cities, close to the Gower Peninsula and the Brecon Beacons. Valleys and waterfalls, rivers and coastline provide a wonderful backdrop for many activities including walking, mountain biking and surfing. This is a thriving area, rich in history, but with eyes fixed firmly on the future.
Join this planning team and help support 140,000 residents and businesses with their development objectives. This council has ambitious goals to see their children and young people get the best start in life, to promote community and to make the borough a vibrant, healthy and safe place to live and work!
This position plays a key role in progressing the ambitious capital investment programme including new schools, town centre regeneration, and culture, tourism and leisure projects. The Council also plans to lead on projects to boost low carbon growth, support the steel industry, and create high-quality jobs in the innovation and cleantech sectors.
About You
In order to apply, you should be highly motivated and already very experienced in delivering high quality development quickly. My client is also interested to understand your vision for how Development Management Services and Planning Enforcement should be delivered in the post-Covid era.
You should have experience of serving at Planning Committees and thrive in a position where you can shape services that really deliver to residents and customers.
You should be able to make decisions, demonstrating your professional competency and credibility to all stakeholders. You will have the ability to delegate, empower and enable your team to continuously improve; with an eye for opportunity and able to maximise income from the service.
The post requires a planning qualification to Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) standard or equivalent relevant Development Management experience.
It is also essential that you have the ability to travel throughout the County Borough. Welsh language skills are not required but are desirable.
