Job Details

Our client, a local authority, is looking for a Principal Planning Officer to deal with a caseload of planning applications and to manage the area teams, also to ensure that development in the Council takes place in accordance with the adopted policies of the Council.

Key Tasks

Deal with a caseload of the more complex planning, advertisement, listed building, conservation area and estate management consent applications. To have delegated authority for a number of applications (including householder, advertisements, certificate of lawfulness and estate management consent).

To prepare own and check the team's committee reports. Present cases to the Council's Development Management Committee.

To provide the immediate management for a small team of professional officers. To offer advice and guidance and to ensure that work is completed in accordance with established performance indicators

To work with other Principal Officers, Development Management Service Manager and Head of Planning to ensure that demands and pressures across the development management service provided by the Council are addressed in terms of the direction of staff and other resources.

Key Requirements

Liaison/ meetings with and the provision of advice and guidance to customers on planning and related matters. Provision of advice to and response to the requests of the elected Members of the Council.

Completed a first degree and post graduate qualification in Town Planning or related subject.

Experience in professional town planning work

Have experience in hearings and public inquiries.

Ability to work evenings and weekends and have a full UK driving licence and access to a car.
