Job Details

Our client, a local authority in London, is looking for a Major Application and Performance Manager to take a lead and role assist other team members in negotiating high quality development in the borough. The role requires a proactive approach to performance management, by ensuring that resources and processes match our record of meeting and exceeding key performance indicators. You will be the lead officer on managing the pre-application service, co-ordinating the independent design review panel and financial viability contracts as well as a main point of contact in the team for engagement with the Council's Corporate priorities around regeneration, working closely with Strategic partners. You will report to the Head of Development Management and Strategic Planning, deputising at meetings and Planning Committee as necessary, as well as having and maintaining an excellent understanding of relevant policy, law and guidance, drawing on best practice to ensure key performance indicators are maintained.

Person specification (knowledge, skills, experience and behaviours required in the role)

● Previous experience of managing within a Development Management Service.
● Excellent organisational skills particularly in demonstrating evidence of managing team
performance in Development Management.
● Excellent knowledge of Planning legislation, planning policy and guidance and its practical
application.
● A proven ability of driving quality outcomes in negotiations on all types of development, but
particularly major applications demonstrating a highly developed understanding of the
importance of high quality design and an ability to negotiate on financial viability issues.
● Proven experience of decision making under delegated authority and making sound
recommendations to and presiding at Planning Committee.
● Hold a degree in Planning or related qualification accredited by the RTPI and give eligibility to
acquire Chartered Membership of the RTPI. (Eligibility for membership of the Chartered
Management Institute is desirable but not essential)
