Team Leader & Senior Officer - Planning Policy

Our client is a local authority based in the North West of England they need to appoint both an experienced Team Leader and an Officer at either Senior or Principal level for their Planning Policy team.

The Team Leader will lead a team of 5 Officers on all planning policy matters including supervising the development of the Council's local plan policies and projects, including conservation and to assist the preparation of neighbourhood plans.

The role will require the job holder to provide advice, prepare reports and brief elected Members as appropriate, including representation at Cabinet and Council when required. Critical to the Team Leader role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development. You will be working with a wide range of stakeholders and can expect to come into contact with elected members, statutory and non-statutory bodies, developers and public stakeholders.

The Officer role will require you to assist our client review their Local Plan evidence and contribute to their Policy development. You will be involved with ensuring our clients planning policies and guidance are kept up to date by planning and managing projects and work streams. You will carry out research and write policy, lead consultation and engagement exercises and take those projects and work streams through the milestones to external examination where necessary, working across the Spatial Planning service.

To apply you will need to have a significant level of previous planning policy experience and ideally for the Team Leader role you will have proven line management experience to be considered. You will need to have a good breadth of knowledge in relation to policy development and you will need a thorough understanding of UK planning legislation. A relevant degree level qualification is essential and ideally you will have professional accreditation.

These are remote working roles though you might need to go into the office from time to time for meetings.

Both posts will initially be offered for 3 months but could be extended. The Team Leader role is offering between £50-£55/hr and the Senior/Principal roles are offering between £35-£40/hr depending on your level of experience. Both roles are inside IR35. Please get in touch for further details.
