Situated in West Hertfordshire, the Borough of Dacorum is composed of the main towns of Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring, with large areas of Green Belt and Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic settlements and buildings.
We are a busy and ambitious planning department, dealing with a high level of planning applications. We are seeking to appoint Trainee/Planning Officer for our Development Management Team.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the efficient management and processing of a caseload of planning applications and related determinations, notices and orders through all stages of the development process from pre-application advice, statutory process and delivery, in accordance with performance targets and standards. This will include preparing reports for and attending Development Management Committees (during evenings, as required) and preparing statements and proofs of evidence for appeals. You will be liaising with our customers ensuring that complex matters are explained politely and professionally.
The successful candidate will be developing knowledge and skills in the above with support and guidance from Team Leaders, Assistant Team Leaders and the wider Development Management team and have the opportunity to be involved with applications for major/strategic schemes in the Borough. The role is offered on a career grade structure and salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Applicants would ideally have a Town Planning degree or related subject and will work towards eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Applicants must have a driving licence that is valid in the UK.
A Standard or Enhanced check will be undertaken with the Disclosure and Barring Service to ensure that the successful candidate has no relevant convictions.
