Principal Town Planner

Our client is a Local Authority looking for a Principal Planning Officer to join their Majors Applications Team. You will manage a varied caseload major applications, and you will lead on the negotiations for these applications from pre-application discussions through to application submission and decision and associated submission of conditions post decision, ensuring community benefits are secured and the Council's regeneration objectives are met. You will prepare and present Committee reports on major proposals of strategic importance and you'll prepare statements, proofs of evidence for public enquiries and act as professional witness.

To apply for this role you will need to be a degree qualified Town Planner with a strong development management background. You will need to be comfortable managing your own caseload and have extensive experience of working on complex minor applications and small major applications as lead officer, with an understanding of s106 agreements and viability negotiations. You will need to be well organised and confident dealing with external third parties and able to produce well written communications. Your strong knowledge of UK planning legislation will enable you to provide pre-application advice and you will be confident when advising developers on planning proposals; good negotiation skills are essential.

This role is based in South East London but our client does offer flexible home working. It is initially going to be offered for 3 months, but is expected to be an ongoing rolling contract. Our client is offering up to £45/hr umbrella.
