Exceptional Opportunity to lead on forging the City of London’s future

An outstanding and unique opportunity has arisen in the City of London Corporation for a Head of Policy and Strategy to lead the Planning Policy and Strategy Team in the Environment Department. This is a key and pivotal leadership position in the City Corporation to develop policies and strategies which are not only relevant and responsive but proactively deliver the change the City needs to thrive.

The City of London is the historic and commercial core of the capital and a world leading financial and business centre. Planning in the City reconciles growth and development with the stewardship of a unique heritage alongside the creation of world class sustainable places. The City of London has always evolved, responding to a changing economic and wider changes.

The City is currently experiencing change at an almost unprecedented level with challenges such as Climate Change resilience, Zero Carbon, the impact of hybrid working, a changing retail sector, the need to strengthen the vibrant cultural and visitor appeal of the City as a 7-day City, ensuring social and economic inclusion and a cleaner and greener Transport strategy prioritizing pedestrians and encouraging cycling. These challenges will need to be met whilst maintaining the City’s position as the world’s foremost business centre appealing to a diverse economic base and occupiers to reinforce the City’s future prosperity as an inclusive place for all which celebrates diversity.

The postholder will lead a team of experienced policy planners but also work in an integrated way with outstanding City planners from Development Management, Design, Sustainability, Climate Resilience, Transport and other multi-disciplinary professionals to develop a radical and innovative plan and policies responsive to the challenges and opportunities ahead for the City.

You are expected to demonstrate proven exceptional leadership skills and extensive experience in developing plans, policies and strategies in a high-profile environment. Above all, the postholder will be expected to be radical, creative and innovative and be a proactive, inspirational, high profile and a visible promoter and communicator of the City Corporation’s policies and strategies.

The posts require a degree or equivalent in Town Planning along with proven extensive experience at senior planning policy level and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

 

An effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you will be IT literate with working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

 

A commitment to excellent customer services, a flexible approach to work and the ability to work to very strict deadlines are essential qualities for this role.
