As a Principal Planning Officer in Development Management, you will play a leading role in determining the Council's strategic planning applications. This is a rare opportunity to influence placemaking at a variety of levels.  You will be the lead officer on major residential development proposals, as well as other projects of strategic importance, and have responsibility for signing off smaller scale delegated planning decisions on behalf of the Council. The role is key to the success of ensuring sustainable and well-designed development within Cheshire East.

We are a large team of planning professionals which provides a supportive environment for managing the wide range of planning applications that we receive as a unitary planning authority. Reporting to an area manager, you will manage a small team of planning officers. You will collaborate closely with other specialists in the team including highway officers, ecologists, conservation officers, urban designers, landscape architects, lawyers and many other stakeholders.

We are looking for a professional team player with the skills and experience to successfully manage major planning applications and to mentor more junior planning officers within your team.  You will be confident and experienced in negotiating with developers at pre-application stage, presenting to Planning Committee and representing a local planning authority at Appeal. You must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

You must be organised with excellent report writing and IT skills. You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of current local and national planning policy and have a track record of negotiating improvements to development proposals through the planning application process.

You should be qualified to degree level within Planning or a related discipline and be eligible for RTPI membership. You must possess leadership skills and have a customer focused approach. Ability to travel throughout Cheshire East and a full UK driving license are required.
