Job Details

Our client is a busy Local Authority in North London, and they require 2 Planning Enforcement Officers to join them for contract roles and manage large case loads of planning enforcement investigations.

They need a Principal Officer with at least 5 years of experience who will investigate and resolve difficult, high profile and significant breaches of legislation, affecting the borough by operating across traditional boundaries. This is a home working role but you may be required to carry site visits during investigations into planning complaints and enquiries in accordance with the priorities set by the Council's Planning Committee and make recommendations on appropriate further action. This will require the monitoring of compliance with abatement notices, stop notices, enforcement notices, breach of condition notices, section 215 notices and producing witness statements for the service of summonses.

They also require an Enforcement Officer with at least 2 years of experience, to manage a large caseload of cases which will include new, and existing enforcement investigations. These cases will likely focus on residential properties but may also include commercial premises. As a Planning Enforcement Officer your fundamental role will be to carry out site visits and investigate potential planning control breaches, related appeals and planning application case-work including negotiations and conflict resolution with developers and other interested parties. You will be required to record evidence and detailed information in a precise format as it may be required should a case progress to prosecution.

To carry out this role it is absolutely essential you have worked within a similar capacity within a local authority setting. You will need a good working knowledge of planning legislation and you will need to be well organised. As you will be largely working under your own initiative you will need to be disciplined in your approach to work and you will need to be able to manage work within agreed timeframes. Formal town planning qualifications are not absolutely necessary if you have an equivalent level of work experience in this specialist area.

The Principal role is expected to run for 12 months and the Officer role will initially be offered for 3-6 months but could be extended.

The rate will depend upon your level of appointment and experience but it is expected to be between £26 - £33p/hr for the Officer role and £40+/hr for the Principal role. Both roles are inside IR35 and are home working roles but you will need to carry out site visits.

Please get in touch for further details.
