PLANNING POLICY MANAGER

At Epsom & Ewell, we aspire to deliver high quality services to our residents. We might be small, but we have big plans to serve our population of 80,000 residents. We are investing in our future, increasing strategic capacity and exploring new ways of working.

Our long-term vision for the Borough tells us where we want to be and how we’re going to get there. This new role will be crucial to delivering that vision and the aspirations of local people, as well as driving forward key deliverables from our Four Year and Recovery Plans.

The Planning Policy Manager is a role which provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to work with and lead an experienced and committed team of planners, currently preparing a new Local Plan for Regulation 18 consultation. You will be responsible for providing the lead on all planning policy matters including Community Infrastructure Levy, Economic Development and Climate Change as well as managing a diverse and challenging workload of your own, while enhancing the Borough, the Council and their own professional portfolio.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual who can provide effective leadership of our Planning Policy Team to enable the Borough to move forward with its planning policy aspirations.

The focus of this role is to deliver a new Local Plan for the Borough and to refresh the Council’s suite of Supplementary Planning Documents while also putting in place a refreshed Climate Change action Plan that responds to the changing priorities to mitigate and adapt to Climate Change.

The ideal candidate will have considerable Planning experience. You will have achieved full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and have a recognised degree (or equivalent qualification).

Epsom and Ewell Borough lies on the ‘spring line’ of the North Downs where chalk meets London Clay. A truly beautiful part of Surrey with rolling countryside and an excellent quality of life. It has excellent transport communications into central London. Epsom, where the Council offices are located, is only 35 minutes from London (Waterloo).

The borough is home to the world-famous Derby and several high-quality educational institutes including the University of Creative Arts and North East Surrey College of Technology. Over half of the borough is open green space with over 18 parks including the historic Nonsuch Park and Epsom Downs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a professional and committed team and we look forward to receiving your application. For further details please go to www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/careers or contact Viv Evans, Head of Place on 01372 732390

Closing date: 23.59 on 19th December 2021

Interviews/ assessments: week commencing 3 January 2022
