Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are seeking a talented, motivated and ambitious Planning Officer to join our busy Development Management Team.

This is a career graded role, therefore offering fantastic opportunities to develop your career and move to the next grade.

Whether you are an entry-level planner or are looking to develop your existing planning experience we can offer all the support and training you need. You will need to be highly motivated with the desire to help us positively shape our environment through fostering sustainable growth and the delivery of the right homes and jobs, in the right places.

After 6 months working in the team, you could gain funding for further qualifications, (including levy-funded courses), subject to entering into a training agreement and meeting specific criteria.

You will be:

  • a team player with initiative
  • solutions-focused with an appetite for effective collaboration with our key stakeholders
  • implementing our spatial vision for the districts which is a priority as we progress the adoption of our new, joint Local Plan.

You will:

  • implement development management and planning decision-making, reflecting the nature of the districts and how they function, in accordance with the councils’ strategies and policies for securing sustainable development
  • proactively and proportionately enable the making of clear and timely planning decisions, considering the needs of the community
  • be able to deliver excellent customer service with good verbal and written communication skills
  • be committed to always upholding the reputation of the councils
  • provide expert advice for permitted development queries, pre-application enquiries and formal planning applications, with reference to current planning regulations.

You will be provided with full support for career and personal development to fulfil your potential. Benefits for this role include an essential car user allowance. We offer a generous leave entitlement, access to the Suffolk Green Travel Plan, gym discounts and a competitive pension scheme.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are committed to agile and flexible working practices (subject to business need). We believe that work is something we do and not somewhere we go; we want our staff to feel enabled and empowered to fully embrace these opportunities.

This role is normally based at our modern and conveniently located office accommodation, however, during the COVID 19 pandemic, we have been working from home and it has worked really well for us.

We can offer great opportunities for training and development and we will give you all the support we can to build a great career with us. We also offer flexible working options, a generous leave entitlement, a discount scheme and a pension scheme.
