Senior Transport Planner (3-year fixed-term contract)

Help to make Hounslow safer, greener and healthier.

Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. By dealing with a wide range of transport planning issues, from major strategic transport projects through to the promotion of cycling and walking, our Transport Planning & Road Safety team is central to our success.

Right now, we’re looking for a Senior Transport Planner to help us ensure that new developments are built in accordance with our innovative transport strategy, and that developers share our vision to make the borough healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible for our residents and visitors.

You will help us to assess the transport impacts of major new developments, ensuring that all proposals support our transport strategy and our values. You’ll need to secure appropriate mitigation measures from developers, working closely with colleagues in the planning and regeneration teams. Your role will also include managing highways agreements as well as responding to other transport and planning queries. You will be able to manage a varied caseload and respond to complex issues so experience of working in a transport planning environment and knowledge of the planning system is essential.

This role represents a fantastic opportunity to work with colleagues across the council to ensure active travel is fully embedded into everything we do. You’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centered around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

You should have a transport planning, or similar, qualification and experience of working in a transport planning environment and of managing related legal agreements. We’ll want to see a good understanding of current best practice in the promotion of sustainable transport. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential.

In addition, we’ll also want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to help deliver our Transport Strategy, feed into a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, and protect the environment. You’re someone who can influence the shape of the borough.

We’re based in Hounslow House, but are currently working from home. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
