This is an exciting time to join us at Wealden. We have high levels of housing need, including affordable housing, pressure to deliver growth in our towns and rural areas, including employment space, new and improved infrastructure and community facilities, as well as delivering on our climate change emergency. All whilst protecting and enhancing our environment.

Whilst Wealden is a rural area, much of which is within High Weald AONB, it does have a very buoyant local economy being so close to London, Gatwick Airport, Brighton and key UK holiday destinations. Our planning casework has slowed due to COVID but we are recovering as fast as possible and used to dealing with significant numbers of planning applications. Our Planning Policy Team is busy preparing a new Local Plan, due for consultation in early 2022 and submission for Examination in Public in Spring 2023.

We are therefore adding extra resource to our Development Management Team, to move the last of stalled work but also to prepare for growth in the emerging Plan.

We have openings at the following levels:

Post number PLTLS - Team Leader (South team)

Post number H1023 - Team Leader (North team)

Post number PLSPOM - Senior Planning Officer (Majors team)

Post number PLSPON - Senior Planning Officer (North team)

Post number PLSPOE - Senior Planning Officer x 2 (Enforcement)

Post number PLPOS - Planning Officer (South team)

Post number H1028b - Planning Officer (North team)

Post number H1051 - Conservation Officer

When applying, please specify the post(s) you are applying for in your application.

Wealden is a superb place to come and work, live and enjoy life. The area is steeped in history, with the iconic High Weald AONB, Ashdown Forest and South Downs close by. Leisure opportunities abound along our stunning coastline, within our vibrant and growing towns and attractive countryside. The District is amongst one of the most attractive and diverse in East Sussex and offers a stimulating and varied range of environments and opportunities within which to develop and advance your planning career.

We offer an excellent package including competitive salary, relocation allowance where applicable, career average salary pension scheme, agile working patterns, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.

If you are looking for part time hours, there is a possibility that these posts could be available as a job share subject to discussion.
