Basingstoke and Deane Council’s planning service has recently been refocused to help deliver a range of exciting projects. A number of new opportunities have been created to strengthen the planning policy team and the council is looking for candidates with different levels of experience and expertise. Planning Policy Team Leader - Grade 9 - £45,859 to £49,874 per annum - Permanent - Full Time

For this role, you’ll need a recognised professional planning qualification and a number of years’ experience gained in a local planning authority or private consultancy. Team leadership and management skills are required, with experience of taking a leading role in Local Plan making. With this experience, and reporting to the Team Manager, you will lead on strategic infrastructure, transport, and viability issues, providing advice to support the preparation and delivery of planning policy related projects including the delivery of the Community Infrastructure Levy. You will support the delivery of a sound planning policy and design service, providing line management for a number of officers.

Principal Planning Policy Officer – Infrastructure - Grade 8 - £39,880 to £43,857 per annum - Permanent - Full Time

 For this role, you’ll also need a recognised professional planning qualification and relevant experience. You will hold a pivotal role, providing support on infrastructure related matters through the adoption of a pro-active approach. Projects will include the preparation of Infrastructure Delivery Plans, annual Infrastructure Funding Statements and input into key corporate projects. You will also lead on the delivery of the Community Infrastructure Levy, or its successor, and ensure that strategic viability issues are fully considered in Local Plan making and associated work areas.  You will also support the delivery of the planning policy service, assisting in the preparation and implementation of planning policy documents and other Council Plans and strategies.

Senior Planning Policy Officer - Grade 7 - £34,728 to £38,890 per annum - Permanent - Full Time

With a recognised professional planning qualification, you will need some relevant experience gained in a local planning authority or private consultancy. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders you will assist in the delivery of a sound planning policy service, providing technical planning advice to internal and external customers and assisting in the preparation and implementation of planning policy documents, most notably the Local Plan, but also supplementary planning documents, neighbourhood plans, and other council plans and strategies. A thorough knowledge and understanding of current issues and professional practices is important, combined with excellent communication and team working skills.

Planning Policy Graduate Trainee - Grade 5/6 - £26,511 to £33,782 per annum - Permanent - Full Time

The role involves all aspects of planning policy work and will provide the post holder with valuable experience of both urban and rural planning issues in an area of significant growth and change.  As a graduate, this career graded post offers the opportunity to undertake post-graduate planning training in a supportive team with scope to develop and progress your career.

Excellent communication skills and a customer focus are essential to the post as is the ability to progress a varied workload and see the bigger picture. Relevant experience of working within a local planning authority or a private consultancy in a planning role will be a benefit, and you will be a well organised person, who can work collaboratively but also independently to support the team in providing a first-rate planning policy function.
