Lambeth is recruiting a Principal Planning Officer within its Development Management service to assist in managing all aspects of the development management process. The role is provided as a 12-month fixed term contract and provides an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for the successful applicant.

The role

We are looking for talented individuals with a passion for planning and shaping places that will help us deliver high quality developments throughout the Borough. The nature of the job requires excellent written, verbal communication and negotiation skills.

All candidates will need to have a relevant degree, and ideally be working towards, or have secured, chartered membership of the RTPI. You will also be expected to demonstrate experience and knowledge of development management commensurate with the role that you apply for.

The successful candidate will line manage 2-4 planners, senior planners and validation officers. They will need to lead their officers in negotiating the best possible development outcomes in a positive and solutions led manner and be able to manage a high-performing Development Management service. The successful candidate will be expected to present applications to the Planning Applications Committee, and to ensure reports and other documents prepared by team members are of a high standard. When required, they will also need to deputies for the area team manager.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a significant level of experience and knowledge of Development Management, ideally in a busy metropolitan area; that they can effectively manage a team and build their capabilities; and that they are an effective communicator who can engage well with developers, investors, partners and citizens and build good relationships with Members of the Planning Applications Committee.
